The Map Resource Center (MRC)

The Map Resource Center is the mechanism for sharing spatial data between various Government of Newfoundland & Labrador departments. The MRC is a read-only resource that can be relied upon for consistent access of spatial data that is current and relevant to an audience outside the department where it originated. For example, datasets defining the Province's highways and related assets, such as guide rails and signs, may be relevant to people outside of the Province's Department of Transportation and Works, who are responsible for the dataset's creation and maintenance. Dataset changes that regularly occur due to a department's regular business flow are reflected within the MRC through an automated procedure that moves the departmental data via an extract-translate-load (ETL) process.

Data is made available through map and geodata web services that are accessible to all government desktop GIS users and all staff via an internet mapping application. Data is rigorously documented following a profile of the FGDC metadata standard, giving MRC users the ability to search its data holdings and learn about a dataset's appropriate use, contact information and general characteristics.
